This is a beautiful place to walk around. Also there is a complex and outdoor area for people to play tennis, Frisbee golf, and have different events. There are a few paths to take. The complex has a few rooms where different events take place and can be rented out. Overall it is a really pretty place to walk around, play and celebrate. My sister and I spent almost an hour and a half wondering around – it was really nice looking around.

Bowen Park is located in the heart of the city, with most of the 36 hectare park remaining undeveloped. A series of interpretive trails meander along the Millstone River. A leisurely stroll leads to a scenic waterfall and fish ladder. Visit the duck pond and an amazing rhododendron grove with over 350 different species.
Amenities include an outdoor swimming pool (summer), sports fields, curling club, outdoor lacrosse box, disc golf (discs can be borrowed at registration counter), tennis courts, horseshoe pitches, sand volleyball courts, two playgrounds, lawn bowling green and an outdoor amphitheatre available for weddings and other private events. There are also two covered picnic shelters.
Bowen Park was donated to the City of Nanaimo in 1918 by the Western Fuel Company of San Francisco with a condition for park purpose only. Official land title registration took place in 1931.
Bowen Park is a large greenspace that has forest and a river, but has also been developed in other places with a recreation center, two BBQ pavilions (both with children’s playgrounds), disc golf course, two pedestrian bridges, impressive rhododendron gardens, a pool, horseshoes, lawn bowling, tennis, sand volleyball courts, curling, lacrosse, a duck pond, fish ladder and more.
The park is just northwest of downtown Nanaimo. Many people who bike or walk to work will cut through the park for some extra exercise, or for peace of mind. It’s also just a nice place to hang out with a blanket under the trees or near the Millstream river.
Bowen Park is especially pretty in the autumn, when the big maples have thick, crispy cushions of orange leaves beneath. There are big hills that are great for tobogganing in the winter, and in the spring there are flowers and blooming rhododendrons.
