Contemporary Art Gallery

I found this gallery not to be that big. There are three decent size rooms (not that big). The (gift) shop is more of a cubbie/almost closest space. No admission I had to pay to look around. Going through this gallery did not take me that long as I would other galleries. There were a few pieces that were interesting but I did not linger that long. It is nice if doing a quick look around other places in the area. For me not a full afternoon trip. I am not too sure what I was expecting from this gallery to be honest. Some of the pieces were really interesting. The gallery likely have of had other interesting exhibits, but the one that I saw did not meet what I thought, if at all. Though I was not expecting much. So that would be more on me not the gallery.

The Contemporary Art Gallery (CAG) is an independent, non-profit public art gallery and one of Canada’s leading venues for contemporary art. Offering free access to everyone, we work with artists from Canada and around the world to produce exhibitions, off-site projects, residencies, learning, outreach, community engagement programs, events and publications. Each of these interdependent strands of programming varies in scale, duration and location to challenge how and where we might engage with contemporary visual art.

Education is key to our activities, promoting knowledge, understanding and debate for the broadest range of constituencies. Our learning and public program activities include talks, multilingual guided tours, youth programs and workshops for schools and families, emphasizing the importance of personal experience, celebrating creativity and stimulating an enthusiasm for knowledge through engagement with contemporary visual art.

Situated on Nelson Street in Downtown Vancouver, our galleries are fully accessible and open to all, with our programs provided free of charge unless otherwise stated.

With gratitude as guests, the Contemporary Art Gallery acknowledges that the land on which we operate is the unceded and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
