Waterloo Central Railway

I first really knew about this and rode it was in high school doing some volunteer hours towards graduation. In the caboose one can rent the space for a small birthday party or celebration. The rest of the train passengers can ride the train from Uptown Waterloo to St. Jacobs Farmer’s Market, the St. Jacobs Village, and the town of Elmira. The ride is really something to see on this historical passenger train – Farmer’s Market Diesel Train – on the historic railway branch. As well they have steam train excursions and themed train rides. They do make stops at St Jacobs Market for those who want to take some time there. They have a gift shop in the St Jacob’s Village (some items at the stop in UpTown) and passengers are able to travel to Elmira to ride on a tractor from the train to the downtown.

Customer can also use the train for film and photo shoots. An entire train or individual cars – built in 1923 or 1950 – can be used as a moving film set, select the right car or entire train. Their volunteers on-hand can assist with filming in the train. If using moving scenes, they can also help with finding the best location on the line and plan the shoot. The steam engine provides a romantic backdrop for wedding, anniversary, prom, and other special occasion photos. Fees vary depend on the nature of the shoot and length of time. Contact them for fees.
